Hello again. Another problem.
We have 3 VMs on VMware Essentials 5.0. One, the Domain Controller is Windows 2003 Server. One we call 'SQL' is Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, one vnic. The 'SQL' computer also runs MS SQL Server 2012. One we call 'MDT' is Windows 2008 Server R2 Standard 2 vnics on different networks. Plus we have other workstations on Windows 7 Professional and Windows XP Professional.
Programs that reside on 'SQL' are run on 'MDT' and the workstations via shortcuts. For the past month these programs running on 'MDT' and the workstations have crashed at least once per day at random times. Most annoying. Usually the 'MDT' or the workstation is rebooted at that time, need it or not. 'SQL' is not rebooted.
So, wanting to see if the network was disrupted when these crashes occurred I set up a never ending ping between 'MDT' and 'SQL', and between a couple of the workstations and 'SQL'. Every 5 seconds send one ping packet to 'SQL'. The problem programs running on 'MDT' and the workstations have not crashed since. I think this might be a clue of some kind.
I have been Googling Windows KeepAlive but I can barely spell TCP let alone diagnose it. Am I on the right track? Should I be looking elsewhere?
TIA,
--
