I have a brand new Dell T430. Just installed Dell Customized Image ESXi 6.5 A00 (based on ESXi VMKernel Release Build 4564106). Installed ESXi on SD card. For virtual machine storage I have a RAID 5 with Perc H330 controller. Using the web client I can see my storage adaptors and storage devices. Using the web client, I go through the 4 steps to create a datastore. On the "finish" step I get an error. "Failed to create VMFS datastore DataStore1 - Cannot change the host configuration". Does it not like the configuration of my RAID? See attached screenshot.
Physically my RAID 5 consists of 3 1TB SATA drives.
My RAID arrived from Dell with a virtual configuration of 2 disks.
One disk has two partitions. A 39.19MB Primary FAT partition with 39MB free. And a 2GB Primary FAT32 partition, with 1.99GB free. This partition is also listed as having an OS. I believe it is Dell's server management software. This disk also has 1.8TB unallocated. This is where ESXi attempts to create the DataStore, before it fails.
The other disk has one 18.8GB primary NTFS partition, with 18.74GB free.
All of these disks and partitions show up in the ESXi web client. Not sure why Dell shipped the RAID with the configuration it has. I wonder if ESXi does like the way the RAID is broke down into disks and partitions.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
