Expand size of thin provisioned disk

I'm making semi-final config changes to a new VMware installation that should go live in the next 1-2 weeks.

As I loaded data into my SQL VM, I realized that I didn't allow enough space on the data drive.  Fortunately (?), I set it up as a thin provisioned drive.

I'd like advice about what steps I need to execute in order to increase the space allocation and make accessible to the VM.

If I increase the "provisioned size" after "edit settings" in VCenter, this would appear to increase the allocation available, but this isn't enough??

How do I get the virtual server to recognize and make available this larger space?   The size of the partition appears set within the Server Manager \ Storage \ Disk Management.  If I increase the space available (as described above), what do I do here?

I'm running VSphere 4.1.  My VM is Windows Server 2008 R2.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Jim
