Brushing up on my notes for the VCAP and come across a bit of an inconsistency between the documentation and the website.
The guide mentions Intel Xeon 5500 systems (Nehalem) whilst the KB talks about Intel Weybridge (Q35 chipset) and Stoakley (Intel Xeon 5400) and even more confusingly the HCL only lists 5 Dell Servers as being on the HCL with VM Direct Path IO as a supported feature (and that has to be ESXi 5.0).
What actually is supported?
